2017 Alumni Events and Festivities

The following is a schedule of events and festivities that you might wish to participate in. Please remember that most of the honored classes will be having some special activity for their particular class. Hopefully you will receive a letter from class planners stating what those activities are. If you are an honored class and have not received a letter, please call Perry Martin for more information at 740-472-0595.

(The main letter is being finalized with events and will be passed on to honored classes very soon.)


Thursday, June 15


At 7:00 PM, a concert provided by One - A - Chord will be held in front of the Court House. In case of rain event will be held at the Methodist Church.


Several restaurants will be open extended hours. Meet with old friends, share food, drink and memories. Please check schedules that will be posted on business windows around town.


All honored classes will have a window to decorate. Please share memorabilia if you have any. For all class window locations or information please contact Jessica Hoff at 951-956-0278.


Friday, June 16


The parade line up will begin at the City Park at 6:00 p.m. for the Beacon Picture. The parade begins at 7:30 p.m. All honored class members should meet other classmates there to ride a float or a car. If you need information about the parade, please call Cheryl (Briggs) Piatt at 740-472-0478.


Calling all Band Members!!!! Join the fun, your participation is appreciated. The Alumni Band will proudly parade down Main Street ending their performance with three heartfelt songs, the School Songs and the Star Spangled Banner. Again, restaurants and other establishments will be open later for your enjoyment.


C.J. Wise will be on hand to entertain you on the square following the parade. In case of rain, event will be held at the Methodist Church.

Saturday, June 17


A golf scramble will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Switzerland of Ohio Country Club. The fee is $260 per team ($65.00 per person) and covers the cost of a cart, all golf fees and lunch. The Scramble is limited to a MAXIMUM OF 18 TEAMS (72 golfers), NO EXCEPTIONS! Team Captains will be responsible for collecting team entry fees and team registration. Teams must be registered by June 1. For information on the golf scramble contact Mike Elliott at 740-926-1108.


The Alumni Picnic will be held at Rubel’s Park just west of Woodsfield on SR 78. Doors open at 5:00 p.m., dinner at 6:00 p.m. Please bring a covered dish. Announcement of the honored classes will begin at 7:30 pm, followed by the announcement of the 2017 Alumni Scholarships. Mike Calovini will entertain you from 9:00 pm and ending at 12:00 am. You'll need your dancing shoes or just sit, talk and enjoy the music with old classmates. The cost is still only $12.00 per person. This small fee is the only money collected by the Alumni Association, the weekend is funded solely by the admission money collected at Rubel's.


Back by popular demand the corn hole competition is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. Registration starts at 5 p.m. The cost is $10 per team. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top two teams.


Reservations are not necessary. Please plan to attend the Alumni Picnic Saturday evening at Rubel's Park. For any questions please call Cecile (English) Watters at -740-827-0983.


Sunday June 18


The annual church service will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ at 10:30 am. The Alumni Choir will be on hand to sing and inspire you, along with guest speaker Brian Smith. It is a wonderful ending to a great weekend. If interested in singing in the choir please contact Justin Saffle 740-213-4536 or Micky Schumacher 740-472-1249. Alumni Scholarships


The Alumni Association takes great pride in being able to offer several scholarships to former Alumni and their offspring. Annual scholarships of $500 are sponsored locally, in memoriam and by alumni classes. To apply for a scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

1. Must be a graduate, child of a graduate or a grandchild of a WHS/MCHS Alumni,

2. Be accepted into an accredited college, university, technical or trade school,

3. Complete a scholarship application,

4. Supply an official high school or college transcript, and

5. Complete a one but no more than two page essay on the topic:

“Choose an experience from your life and explain how it has influenced your choice of a career path"


Anyone who received a scholarship last year is not eligible to apply this year. The scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors, or college (Undergraduate or Graduate School), technical/trade students. **At 7:00 PM, a concert provided by C.J. Wise will be held in front of the Court House. In case of rain, event will be held at the Methodist Church.
